What to wear when it’s 100 degrees

Upon moving to Houston from NYC in 2016 I knew I’d have to make adjustments to my wardrobe. Firstly, I knew I could downsize my winter items as “winter” in Houston is short and mild. Secondly, I would have to up my warm weather selection as it feels like summer 1/2 of the year.

Therefore, I began to shift my focus on certain styles and fabrics that were most practical for those 100 degree days (because there are a handful of them). This led to some wonderful new additions in my closet. For one, I am all about linen/linen blend pants. I currently have about a half dozen colors, but didn’t purchase my first pair until moving to Houston. In addition, the “casual dress” section of my closet has really amped up. Cotton t-shirt dresses and Catalina cloth sheaths have become a reliable go-to.

Some of my current faves for those hot summer days!

I’ve put together a selection of some cotton and linen dresses that are the epitome of “easy breezy.” Shift dresses (which have a straight cut, without a fitted waistline) are perfect as they don’t cling to your body. Sticking to cotton or linen will be lightweight and breathable so you’re less likely to sweat through them! Whether you go for an option that is knee length, midi or maxi you’ll be sure to stay cool on the hottest of days, no matter where you live.
